Rutland’s newest dentistry is coming to the aid of its community for those who may not have access to dental care.
On Nov. 26, Orchard Smiles will provide a free dentistry day to help address the unmet dental needs of individuals in the community.
Ramsey and Romey Jaswel, Parmeet Dhillon, and Saba Shakeri are the four dentists behind Orchard Smiles.
They say they understand and appreciate that adequate dental care is unattainable for many individuals in the Okanagan, which is why they wanted to provide an opportunity to help.
The name Orchard Smiles came as a tribute to Jaswel’s family upbringing and their involvement with agriculture. Farming has been in the family for decades. Jaswel and his family continue to farm, with him and his brother helping on Mondays to pick fruit.
In August, Orchard Smiles opened its doors with unique operating times from Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The dentistry supplies support for anxious patients, wheelchair accessibility, free onsite parking, multiple appointment bookings for families and short wait times.
On Nov. 26, the team of receptionists, assistants, hygienists and dentists will be on hand to help those in need of dental care.
Application guidelines are:
•To apply, please email orchardsmilesfreedentistry@gmail.com with the following information:
- a piece of ID that displays your name and address (to confirm you are an Okanagan resident)
- a small paragraph demonstrating why you are a candidate for free treatment
•Submission of your application at this point is for screening purposes only. If you are selected, the office will contact you to provide further information and instructions. If you are not selected, you will not be contacted.
•It is Orchard Smiles’ goal to treat as many patients as possible. However, they are expecting a large number of applicants for the free dentistry day, and may not be able to provide care to all of those in need.
