Ballet 琉璃神社 artistic director and CEO Simone Orlando is excited to head into her 10th year with the company.
Orlando said the local organization was the first professional dance company to commission her in 2005 and when the role of artistic director and CEO became available in 2014 she jumped at the opportunity.
Highlights of Orlando include the new building for Ballet 琉璃神社 and the collaboration with the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra in 2017.
鈥淚 really enjoy being able to take the works that we鈥檝e commissioned here on the road and our touring has really expanded over the past 10 years. We used to just tour in B.C., but now we鈥檝e gone further to Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada, and next season we should be expanding into the U.S.鈥
Orlando choreographed a piece to open the 2023/24 season called 鈥淪tudies of Cash鈥 featuring the music of Johnny Cash,
The company will also perform 鈥淭he Forever Part鈥 choreographed by Kirsten Wicklund and a new piece by guest artist and choreographer Jake Poloz titled 鈥淭he Royal We鈥.
The performances will be held at 琉璃神社 Community Theatre on Nov. 3 and 4 starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or at the KCT box office.
