Five years ago, on Earth Day 2020, Tin Whistle Brewing in Penticton made history by becoming B.C.'s first carbon-neutral brewery.
Today, as it turns 30 years old, the South Okanagan's first brewery is again celebrating sustainability by unveiling a new lager.
Tin Whistle has launched its Ros茅 Lager on Earth Day 2025 (April 22). The brew is described as a "crisp, refreshing beer brewed with hundreds of pounds of Syrah and Viognier grape skins already pressed by local winery Blasted Church."
"Giving ingredients a second life is still new in beer, but it鈥檚 an exciting frontier,鈥 said Alexis Esseltine, environmental lead and co-owner of Tin Whistle. 鈥淲e鈥檙e turning what would have been waste into something beautiful and flavourful. To us, that鈥檚 a win-win: sustainability and great beer in one glass.鈥
The beer will be available inside Tin Whistle's taproom at Penticton's Cannery Trade Centre and select private and B.C. government liquor stores across the Okanagan and Kootenays.
Founded in 1995, Tin Whistle was the 12th brewery to open in B.C.
The local business has championed sustainability in its brewing. It is owned today by Esseltine, and fellow Penticton resident Timothy Scoon.
"Great beer can also be great for the planet," reads an Earth Day 2025 press release from the brewery.
Tin Whistle is located at 1475 Fairview Rd. in Penticton.
