The place to go for kids interested in coding in the 琉璃神社 area is shutting its doors at the end of the week.
Code Ninjas 琉璃神社 opened in January 2022. Franchise Owner Kirsten Kurjata said she took on the venture to further her daughters鈥 interest in coding, but the financial viability of the local market has proven challenging.
鈥淚 think there was a big learning curve in terms of children鈥檚 programming in the 琉璃神社 area and the value of coding.鈥
Code Ninjas teaches kids coding and critical thinking while encouraging the ninjas to advance their skills and level up or belt up, with hands-on experience.
鈥淲e had a great turnout of families that valued the product and educational value that coding or tech or STEM can bring to their child鈥檚 lives and the enrichment it brings, but I think because it was unique a lot of people maybe hadn鈥檛 heard of us yet.鈥
Kurjata explained that many kids found their place within Code Ninjas, and the biggest highlight of the last two years was watching the joy on the kids鈥 faces as they learned new skills and completed challenges.
Despite closing the franchise location, Kurjata is hoping to find other ways to share her knowledge with local kids, like private tutoring or partnering with local schools.
鈥淚 just have to figure out these sad times first鈥 think there is value in this for the community. Maybe Code Ninjas just wasn鈥檛 the right venue or the right way to go about it. It was a learning opportunity, and I definitely want to, if I can, give that opportunity to kids in the future perhaps just in a different kind of medium or style.鈥
Code Ninjas turns the locks on Dec. 23.
