A Summerland winery, along with several other Summerland hospitality businesses, has introduced a program for Okanagan residents as an incentive to shop locally.

Haywire Winery has announced the Haywire Certified Local program, providing benefits and complimentary flash tastings to members, as well as discounts at Summerland Waterfront Resort, Shaughnessy鈥檚 Cove restaurant and Zias Stonehouse Restaurant.

鈥淲e wanted to find a fun way to thank our cherished locals for their unwavering support over the years,鈥 said Haywire Winery founder Christine Coletta. 鈥淲hat started as a grassroots experience 20 years ago has evolved into an industry that caters to everyone鈥檚 tastes.鈥

Craig Pingle, general manager of Haywire, said the program is for Okanagan residents from Vernon to Osoyoos and will run during the shoulder season. The offer is available from Feb. 20 to June 15, and then from Sept. 15 to Dec. 15.

He said the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by the 2023 wildfire season, took a toll on the winery and other businesses in the tourism and hospitality industry in the region.

鈥淲e have a team that鈥檚 ready to serve people,鈥 he said.

The program is intended to show appreciation to the community and the region.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a way of saying thank you for your continued support,鈥 he said.

Pingle added that he wants the program to help promote Summerland as a day destination for Okanagan residents.

Participants in the program will receive a card which entitles them to complimentary flash tastings at the winery, a 10 per cent discount on any product at any time and early notices about special events. In addition, they will receive 15 per cent discounts off best available rates at Summerland Waterfront Resort, 15 per cent discounts off food at Shaughnessy鈥檚 Cove and 15 per cent discounts at Zias Stonehouse Restaurant.

Signing up is done through the Haywire Winery website and is open to Okanagan residents 19 and older.

The signup is at .

The winery was founded in 2009 and was initially named Okanagan Crush Pad. The name was changed to Haywire Winery in early 2023. It is owned by Christine Coletta and Steve Lornie.
