The unwavering assistance of Vernon residents Linda Andrews and Sharon Schappert with the Red Cross Health Equipment Loan Program (HELP) has earned them each a Service Organization Award from the 2024 Community Leader Awards (CLA).

Hosted by The Morning Star, the CLA banquet was held at the Vernon Lodge on Wednesday, March 13.

Andrews and Schappert have been co-leaders of the program for many years.

Dave Frank, assistant volunteer of client services at HELP, remarked on the great dedication each of the women have shown to the program.

鈥淚 oversee eight volunteer-run depots and when I took over in 2020, Vernon was the only one that was self-reliant and running smoothly,鈥 he said. 鈥淚f not for their leadership, HELP in Vernon would not be operating so healthily.鈥

Andrews has been volunteering at the program for over 15 years and both women assist in communicating and supervising depot issues, scheduling volunteer shifts (with a workforce of 20) and managing petty cash and donations.
