The Summerland Action Festival, on June 2 to 4, will feature new family entertainment this year as a big top tent will be added to the attractions.
Dr. Von Houligan鈥檚 Family Extravaganza, a big top event, will have six shows over the course of the weekend.
The tent will be set up in the north end of Memorial Park, near the horseshoe pitch area.
Patrick Bell, chair of the Action Festival Committee, said the show will be a welcome addition to this year鈥檚 festival.
Over the winter, committee members had been working to find an attraction to replace the amusement rides from previous years.
In addition to the big top, the festival will feature an assortment of performers.
These include All Fired Up, a Pat Benetar tribute; Shooting Star, a Paul Rodgers/Bad Company tribute; Bad Moon Riders, a Creedence Clearwater Revival tribute; Supernatural, a Santana tribute and Eagle Eyes, an Eagles tribute.
Other bands and performers include Slam Dogs, made up of members of B.C. bands Prism and Headpins; N.F.A. 鈥 No Fixed Address, a 1980s rock tribute act and others.
鈥淲e鈥檝e got an incredible lineup of entertainment,鈥 Bell said. 鈥淏y all reports, this year is going to be the best in terms of music.鈥
A slo-pitch tournament during the weekend will have more than 80 teams this year.
The Action Festival Parade on Saturday morning already has more than 40 entries in place.
Other events and features of the festival include the Giant鈥檚 Head Run and Man of Steel Triathlon on Saturday, the Action Festival Dance at the Summerland Arena on Saturday evening, a fireworks display on Friday evening, food and craft vendors, the Kinsmen beverage garden and more.
This year marks the 35th year of the festival. It is held on the first weekend of June each year.
