City of Penticton officials are asking for the community's help in naming its new sports field robot, a 56-kilogram green-line painting machine.
鈥淭he parks team used to manually paint the lines, so automating this process is saving us countless hours of staff time,鈥 said parks supervisor Todd Whyte. 鈥淪ince the robot is now part of the team, we thought it would be fun to open it up to residents to help give it a name.鈥
The city is welcoming community members to submit their name suggestions at .
Residents will later be asked to cast their votes for their favourite name, after the city's parks team reads through the submissions and creates a shortlist.
"The winning name will be added to the robot鈥檚 body as a permanent wrap and the individual who submitted the name will receive a prize," a press release reads.
According to the city, early name submissions include:
鈥 Line-all Messi
鈥 Babe Ruth
鈥 Get turfed
鈥 The Blade Runner
The robot can paint a soccer field in 24 minutes, or a baseball in 10 minutes, the city says.
