The Oliver Senior Centre has launched a major fundraising campaign, as it looks to upgrade parts of its longstanding building on Airport Street.

Representatives from the centre say they are hoping to raise $60,000 for updates to the kitchen. They also want to use funds to replenish the wood floor in the main hall.

"Funds are needed for renovations to make the kitchen more efficient, safe, and accessible for our many functions and user groups," a press release from the volunteer-based group reads.

The centre has served the community for 36 years, while "meeting many substantial costs for maintenance and upgrades."

Fitness, socializing, dancing, dinners and art showings are among the activities typically planned inside the centre's main hall and kitchen.

"Time is of the essence as the ideal time to refinish the floor and renovate the kitchen is during the summer when programs are reduced and before full activities start up again in September," the press release reads.

"This campaign is asking for the public’s help to ensure that the Oliver Senior Centre continues to be a hub of welcoming activities for the foreseeable future."

People can help the centre by etransfering donations to .
