PHOTOS: Haunted House raises $4,900 for Penticton Youth Centre

Haunted House and Block Party a huge success for Pen Hi leadership and youth centre campaign

The Haunted House and Block Party at the Penticton Youth Centre was a huge success, raising $4,900 for the Pen High Leadership Class and the Penticton Youth Centre.

鈥淭here were many hands who made this event a success: Our community partners and sponsors, volunteers, Foundry Penticton, and a big thank you to the Pen High Leadership students for all their work, energy, and creativity to make the haunted house come alive,鈥 said the Community Foundation of South Okanagan Similkameen in a social media post.

People lined up around the youth centre on Main Street on Saturday to take in the experience of the student-led Pen Hi Haunted House.

鈥淭he idea of this haunted house was all driven by youth,鈥 said Yuki Ihara from the Community Foundation. 鈥淚t all came about pretty quickly, but it was made possible by everyone working together.

Around 25 leadership students from Penticton Secondary led efforts in decorating the haunted house and serving as its actors once it opened.

Supplies for the project were donated by Loco Landing, Greyback Construction built the haunted house maze and crews Total Restoration topped off efforts by clearing out the area so it can be ready for use.

鈥淭his has been a true community collaboration,鈥 Ihara said.

Just outside the Haunted House, there was a block party on Padmore Ave, between Main St. and Martin St., from 3 to 7 p.m. with DJ Splendid Bastard providing music, Amuzing Fun Rentals offering games, and Fiesta Mexicana on-site with food truck offerings.

鈥淚t鈥檚 great to see everyone get excited, dressed up and for those who love a good scare to see them enjoy the event,鈥 Ihara added.

The proceeds for the Youth Centre will go towards the 鈥淕ive our Youth a Lift鈥 campaign for a much-needed elevator. To learn more or to contribute to the 鈥淕ive our Youth a Lift鈥 campaign, .

The Penticton Youth Centre, opened in 2019, serves over 1,000 youth annually. The Centre is home to four youth service providers: Foundry Penticton, Ministry of Children & Family Development鈥檚 Child & Youth Mental Health, YMCA and ARC Programs.
