Doug Hayhurst, 80, was taken aback by the kind gesture of a woman when his bike broke recently.

Doug Hayhurst is an avid cyclist, taking to the trails whenever the weather allows.

While it's usually a smooth ride, one recent trip left the 80-year-old limping his broken bike back to the car.

He was on the old Grey Canal trail above Buchanan Road when the frame broke and collapsed onto the rear wheel.

"I was about two kilometres from the car," the active senior recalls.

A couple of other riders passed and asked if he was OK, to which he said he should be able to make it back to his car.

"All of a sudden this young couple comes back and the young lady said, 'I'm willing to let you ride my bike and I'll push yours.'"

Ever so grateful, Hayhurst took the woman up on her offer and happily rolled up to his car on two wheels.

Now, several weeks later, he just wanted to share the kind deed with the community and say thanks again to the woman.

"The gesture really hit me at the time," said Hayhurst.
