The Shuswap Garden Club is harvesting the reward from 30 years of hard work.
The club has prided itself on promoting enjoyment and interest in gardening for people of all ages since its inception in 1993. Members are dedicated to nurturing a love for gardening and fostering sustainable practices among themselves and their community, reads a media release.
The club has over 140 active members with support from local nurseries and garden centres.
Monthly meetings feature interesting and educational speakers, a gardening forum, and sometimes, local garden tours where members participate in hands-on workshops. Social connections from all around the Okanagan Shuswap region, said the club.
Giving back is also a focus for the gardeners. Free workshops for the public and the annual Gardeners’ Day draws crowds and keynote speakers.
A proud sponsor of the vegetable and flower divisions in the Salmon Arm Fair, the club hopes to promote gardening to youth by sponsoring school gardening projects in the future.
The annual plant sale is the club’s only fundraiser, held in May and selling out of by-donation plants quickly each year.
Drop in to a meeting the fourth Tuesday of each month (from Sept.-May, excluding Dec.) at 7 p.m. at the 5th Avenue Seniors Activity Centre in Salmon Arm. Visit the club’s Facebook page or call
