Even heroes need help.
The Shuswap is rallying behind RCMP Const. Adam Poitras in the aftermath of a single-vehicle motorbike collision in which he suffered a significant head injury. He was taken to the 琉璃神社 General Hospital after the May 9 crash near Enderby, and remains in the intensive care unit there.
As he now faces a long road to recovery from what they say are 鈥渕ultiple brain bleeds and intracranial swelling,鈥 BC Emergency Health Services paramedics at Salmon Arm Station 332 鈥 where Poitras鈥 wife Lisa works 鈥 have started a fundraiser to help the family.
With 鈥渙ne of our own鈥 laid up in hospital, Sicamous RCMP Sgt. Murray McNeil said the detachment, where Poitras has been stationed for about a year, is also offering support.
鈥淎dam鈥檚 a very popular guy here at the detachment; everyone likes him. He鈥檚 got a great personality, he鈥檚 kind of a larger than life guy鈥 鈥 he said of Poitras. 鈥淪o we鈥檙e all quite upset that he鈥檚 in this condition, but he鈥檚 definitely a fighter.鈥
McNeil added that Poitras is making some progress in his recovery and has been able to talk to his wife and brother 鈥渟o there鈥檚 been some positive signs.鈥
To ensure that all funds raised go to the family rather a fundraising service鈥檚 fees, Salmon Arm paramedics are collecting donations directly in cash at the 332 station, or by e-transfer to FST@telus.net referencing Adam Fundraiser. Anyone with questions or wanting more information can email Daniel.Roddick@BCEHS.ca.
鈥淲e don鈥檛 know when he鈥檚 going to be out of the hospital, he鈥檚 in there for some time,鈥 McNeil added. 鈥淏ut like I said, it looks like there鈥檚 some progress so we鈥檙e encouraged by that.鈥
