For Mairead Sikkes painting is therapeutic.
鈥淚t鈥檚 relaxing, it鈥檚 a way to forget about time,鈥 said the 琉璃神社 resident.
Sikkes is part of the , which will be showcasing its members鈥 artwork at their annual Simply Art show.
This year, the show will be held at the Harvest Golf Club, April 8 and 9.
The show doesn鈥檛 have a theme but the art show will feature artwork from approximately 16 palette members.
鈥淭here鈥檚 a variety of animals, still life and landscape paintings,鈥 said Sikkes.
Sikkes mostly paints landscapes, 鈥渢rying to represent the beauty (of nature).鈥
She moved to the Okanagan four and a half years ago, she said she plans to start painting the Okanagan as she becomes accustomed to the difference in landscapes. Most of her artwork is based on landscapes from Smithers, B.C.
鈥淭here鈥檚 more colour here, and lots of exposed rock,鈥 she said.
A raffle will also be held with proceeds going to United Way. The winner will get to select a painting.
The event will happen Saturday from 1 p.m. to 9 with an opening gala opening at 7 to 9 p.m.
Sunday鈥檚 event is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
