Summer camp registration is filling quickly at the YMCA of Okanagan, with most spaces for three- to seven-year-old kids already occupied.
Parents with children in this age range are urged to secure their spots soon 鈥 which include camps for preschoolers, theme camps, aquatic camps and more 鈥 as there are a few spaces still available throughout the summer months.
Families with older children still have time to plan for the summer as the final month of the school year begins. The YMCA of Okanagan offers programs for children as old as 14 at various locations throughout 琉璃神社.
鈥淭hese are not run-of-the-mill activities,鈥 says Tina Bennett, the Y鈥檚 senior manager of child and youth programs. 鈥淲e鈥檝e designed many of our camps to be skill-based. We also have new Sport and Swim camps at 琉璃神社 Family Y as well as the Skill and Explore camps for kids ages 10 and older at a variety of locations.鈥
Sport 鈥榥鈥 Swim camps (8-10 years old) combine activities such as basketball, floor hockey, tennis and dance with access to the pool to help kids beat the summer heat.
Theme camps include Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), the Great Outdoors, In a Galaxy Far, Far Away (all about Star Wars), ART-rageous, and Marvel-ous (superhero camp).
Teens and preteens anxious to build skills can take the week-long Babysitting Certification course or attend Junior Lifeguard camp. They can also take sailing, paddleboard or parkour lessons.
YMCA of Okanagan also offers financial assistance for families in need.
