Residents of a long-term care facility got a sweet Valentine鈥檚 treat.
Vernon singer-songwriter Andrew Allen stopped by Heron Grove, on 20th Street, Feb. 13, to play some songs for the assisted and independent living, and long-term care residents.
Heron Grove recreation and volunteer coordinator Chris Smith said Allen has a special connection with a Heron Grove resident that spans many years.
鈥淎midst his busy schedule, he made time to come in and play for us,鈥 said Smith. 鈥淎ndrew played some of his classic songs but tried out a few new ones which were all, of course, awesome.鈥
As an added bonus, Allen played the Paul Simon classic You Can Call Me Al, using his looping pedal to record the song鈥檚 iconic bass line.
Allen finished the set with Leonard Cohen鈥檚 timeless song Hallelujah, and an impromptu version of Amazing Grace, as requested by an audience member.
鈥淎ndrew has such a musical gift and stage presence, but on top of that, he is a caring man who made the time to spread some love this Valentine鈥檚 season for some seniors in the community,鈥 said Smith.
Allen was slated to play a Valentine鈥檚 show in 琉璃神社 Wednesday. He has a couple of concerts in Saskatchewan in May.
