Harold Sellers, despite living in Vernon for just 13 years, has quickly entrenched himself into the environmental community, serving on a plethora of boards. (Bowen Assman- Morning Star)

In just 13 years living in Vernon, Harold Sellers has racked up quite the resume of volunteer organizations worked for.

Sellers, who is the bedrock of numerous environmental societies throughout the city, was named the 2024 Community Leader Awards Environmental Leader of the Year.

鈥淗e is always inspiring, committed, patient, caring and humble,鈥 said Roseaane Van Ee (author of Okanagan鈥檚 Nature Nut in The Morning Star), who nominated Sellers. 鈥淎 common refrain from people who meet Harold is 鈥榟ow does he have time to do all of these things!鈥欌

Sellers, who is presently retired, lends his expertise to the North Okanagan Valley Gleaners Society (chairman and the former general manager), North Okanagan Naturalist Club (executive and president), B.C. Nature (vice president), Ribbons of Green Trails Society (president and executive) and Friends of Kal Park (president and director).

In addition, Sellers is a director and editor for the B.C. Bluebird Society, where he monitors a bluebird box trail near Predator Ridge and is a director of the North American Bluebird Society. He鈥檚 also a volunteer warden for Cougar Canyon, and an elder at the Community Baptist Church.

鈥淗e is an outstanding asset to Vernon and beyond,鈥 added Van Ee.
