Boomer radio expands

The owner of two web radio stations; Peachland Radio and Okanagan Radio, Allan Holender has joined forces with Boomer Public Radio to create Okanagan Valley Radio.

鈥淲e鈥檙e excited to be part of a global network dedicated to a generation largely ignored by mainstream media,鈥 Holender said. He launched Okanagan Radio Okanagan Valley Radio in 2015 with a Golden Oldies and Cool Jazz program format after moving from Peachland.

鈥淥kanagan Radio.com has been inactive for the past year waiting for the right partner to take it to the next level,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e have and always will remain an independent station, locally owned and operated with a passion and love for the craft.鈥

鈥淭oday marks the beginning of a new media era for the Okanagan鈥檚 boomers and retirees,鈥 Holender said.

Veteran radio personalities who have been in radio for decades host shows throughout the weekend.

For the past 10 years, Barry Bowman of Victoria and Roger Currie of Winnipeg have hosted BoomerTown. Brant Zwicker of Kamloops hosts one of Canada鈥檚 longest running blues stations, At The Crossroads Blues Radio, Shelley Gummeson, also from Kamloops, hosts a North America鈥檚 jazz show calledJazz on the Rocks.

From New York, Frank Allan, one of the legendary DJ鈥檚 from the 50鈥檚, hosts a four-hour musical extravaganza on the weekend, called Music Beat.

Holender, himself a forty-year veteran broadcaster, who founded C-ISL 650 in Richmond, also hosts his own show called A Boomer Home Companion.

Okanagan Valley Radio programs will air on the Boomer Public Radio Network鈥檚 live stream. Podcasts will be archived on the BPR broadcast website at .
