artist Lucas Glenn has been selected as the city’s next Artist in Residence.

The recent Masters of Fine Arts through the University of Victoria graduate is currently working on a project that will be released and shared with the community this fall.

This year’s theme is climate change and the environment. Glenn is working on a mobile, interactive art installation made from repurposed materials for this project.

The project is called M.A.S.S.I.V.E., which stands for Make-shift Anthropocene Symbiosis Station and Interface for Vibrant Exchange. M.A.S.S.I.V.E. will be installed in various parks this fall and will feature small, interactive eco-contraptions made to help human beings, and non-humans, adapt to a changing climate.

According to Glenn, one of these contraptions uses a modified Gameboy to interface with nature. Once revealed the community will be able to interact with parts of the exhibit and the artist on-site.

I’m excited by this project’s potential for vibrant exchange with ’s communities – both human and non-human,” said Glenn.

The Artist in Residence program supports projects that will take place in . The program is intended to broaden the community’s experience with arts and culture and stimulate thoughtful conversations, said cultural services manager Christine McWillis.
