Legendary rock band Nazareth will headline the opening night of Penticton Peach Festival on Aug. 7.

The pioneers of Scottish Rock will have the Phonix Dance Band open for them.

鈥淲e鈥檙e thrilled to welcome the legendary Nazareth and the phenomenal Phonix Dance Band to the Penticton Peach Festival,鈥 said Penticton Peach Festival President, Shawna Tinga. 鈥淭his promises to be an epic night of music and celebration, setting the tone for an unforgettable Peach Festival.鈥

The bands join previously announced artists Honeymoon Suite, the Odds, Steven Lee Olsen and Lydia Sutherland who are set to take the stage at Peach Fest.

Nazareth鈥檚 54-year history began in 1970 when the original members formed the group. Their breakthrough album, Razamanaz, was released in 1973 and had hit tracks like Broken Down Angel and Bad Bad Boy.

The band took the international stage with the album Hair of the Dog, and the iconic single Love Hurts.

Original founding member Pete Agnew is joined by Lee Agnew, Jimmy Murrison 鈥 the band鈥檚 longest-serving guitarist 鈥 and vocalist Carl Sentance.

Pete Agnew summed up their extensive touring history, stating, 鈥淚f it鈥檚 got electricity, we鈥檝e played it.鈥

Opening the stage for Nazareth is Phonix Dance Band. This award-winning party band boasts Grammy, JUNO, and CCMA award-winning members who have shared stages with performers such as Quincy Jones, Village People, Bif Naked, Jo Jo Mason, and Hey Ocean.

Phonix is a nine-piece powerhouse, delivering a diverse set list of classic hits of the 1950s to today鈥檚 鈥淭op 40鈥 chart-toppers.

Nazarath鈥檚 performance, presented by Peter Bros. Paving, and Phonix, presented by the Penticton Lakeside Resort, will take over the Peach Festival Main Stage in Okanagan Lake Park.
