It's a song that implies housekeeping and, in a sense, it is.
Keep Dusting in the latest video from the new Phunk & Wangles album Songs in the Key of Phunk.
Coldstream's Joseph Pinheiro – Phunk, to Doug Elliott's Wangles – wrote the song which, he says, is about the "never-ending chore of 'housekeeping' your mind – mental maintenance in a world that never slows down."
"Call it mental health awareness, call it clearing your head," said Pinheiro in relation to the duo's video release. "Whatever you call it, music and writing has always been my way of dealing with it."
Pinheiro says with everything happening in the U.S. right now, that internal housekeeping is working overtime.
"In true Phunk & Wangles style, the video keeps us out of the frame, leaning into archive footage instead," he said. "Not out of some grand artistic statement. This project was always about the music, Doug in Vancouver, me in the Okanagan.
"Just writing, creating, and letting the visuals follow. Frost stock to archive to AI (Artificial Intelligence), Keep Dusting is another piece of that ongoing experiment."
The music experiment continues to evolve, with Phunk releasing #SITKOP solo while Wangles heads back to his band, The Odds. Keep Dusting is the latest release from Songs In The Key of Phunk, a 22-song journey that also features Familia Portuguesa, Goodnight Gord, Smokeshow, and Put Your Back Into It.
"This album is a reflection of the last few years of change in my life," said Pinheiro. "My words, painting pictures, scenes, and movies that hopefully connect with you."
