Award-winning musician Sue Foley is bringing her pink paisley Fender Telecaster back to Salmon Arm.
Currently on tour for her latest album, One Guitar Woman, the ROOTSandBLUES Festival veteran will be at Song Sparrow Hall on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, for a concert presented by the Salmon Arm Folk Music Society (SAFMS).
The show, a tribute to female guitar pioneers, will "give audiences the chance to hear Foley’s self-taught interpretations of Charo’s La Malagueña on flamenco guitar, Niccolò Paganini’s Romance in A Minor, and Lydia Mendoza’s Mal Hombre," reads an SAFMS media release.
Gigging since age 16, each time Foley takes the stage she honours blues and finger-picking heroines like Memphis Minnie and Maybelle Carter, who invented the Carter scratch style that influenced legends like Johnny Cash and Hank Williams – who, in turn, influenced the likes of Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley, said the SAFMS.
"Foley’s ingenuity shines in original compositions like Maybelle’s Guitar, where the Carter scratch underscores the towering influence of the Carter family’s music."
Foley’s international attention and accolades include the 2024 Blues with a Feeling/Lifetime Achievement award at the Maple Blues Awards, the 2024 Blues Music Award for Best Traditional Blues Female (her fourth consecutive win), a Juno Award, multiple Austin Music Awards, Blues Music Awards, and Trophées de Blues de France.
For Foley fans wanting a more memorable experience, there will be an opportunity to take part in a special VIP experience that includes a pre-show meet and greet, a swag package (a t-shirt, poster and tote bag) and reserved seating in the first four rows. VIP tickets will be available as supplies last.
