Hey… Baby Boomers, remember the ’80s?
Dance clubs open six nights a week, the birth of MTV, spandex, leg warmers and that distinctive one of a kind ’80s sound. After more than two years in development, Rann Berry’s Time Machine…Back to the ‘80s, is ready to rock.
“The thing that I love about doing this show is the fact that we as musicians actually played through the ‘80s,” said Berry. “We know what it was like. We lived it. We were playing six nights a week in these huge clubs throughout Western Canada. There were so many clubs back then that featured live bands. We worked for the infamous Bruce Allen Agency, then later Sam Feldman and Associates. It was such an amazing decade for live music, and working musicians.”
Berry recalls road trips up here through the Interior. In the big club was called Bernie’s or The Cannery. It eventually became Flashbacks. In Penticton there was Night Moves and Tiffany’s. Vernon had The 29/29 Club, where the band’s accommodations were on the upper floor.
Berry cultivated a new show focussing on that special feel from the 1980s.
“For our new Time Machine Show we’ve spent a lot of time carefully choosing what we felt were some of the most memorable and iconic ‘80s hits, and we’ve even gone as far as to track down authentic 1980s vintage instruments to perfectly duplicate the synthesizer/guitar driven sound that defined the decade,” he said.
The show features a six piece live band that faithfully re creates the hits of artists such as U2, The Police, Simple Minds, Tears For Fears, The Cars, Duran Duran, Wang Chung, AC/DC, The Cult, and so much more. And… a very heartfelt tribute to David Bowie and Prince.
“We’ll be bringing the full blown show with lots of surprises,” promised Berry
