Another weekend of live music, food trucks, a swap meet and crashing cars is in the works for the Shuswap.  

Registration is now open for the return of the Salmon Arm Demo Derby, Swap Meet and Show n' Shine, June 14 and 15 at the city fairgrounds. 

Prospective participants for the three events, as well as interested food and market vendors, can find registration information at derbyswap.com. 

Hosted by Twisted Auto Recycling and the White Post Auto Museum, this will be the second year for this iteration of the derby, which was revived in 2024 by White Post Auto Museum's Vance Tierney and Dave Schwandt, star of the History Channel鈥檚 reality TV show Backroad Truckers, who had been 鈥渄oing derby鈥� for 35 years and decided it was time to revive Salmon Arm's car-crushing event that was last held in 2017.

Partial proceeds from last year's event went to support local non-profits including Shuswap Paws and Salmon Arm Minor Baseball. This year the derby has launched a trades scholarship, which will be awarded to a graduating School District 83 student enrolled in, or intending to enrol in a trades program. 

Scholarship funding is raised from donations to the derby's silent auction, supported by businesses in the Shuswap and surrounding area.

"We are thrilled to offer this opportunity and look forward to presenting students with a significant boost to their education," said derby organizers.
