Check out some experimental music Thursday as ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç’s own musician partakes in the Skin And Bones Music Series.

Vancouver’s favourite sonic landscapist V. Vecker and ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç’s own avant-garde saxophonist Darren Williams will be performing together in concert on April 27 at the Naked Café in downtown ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç.

This concert is the eighteenth installment of the Skin And Bones Music Series. Now in its second year of production, Skin And Bones is an Okanagan Arts Award nominated concert series devoted to the presentation of experimental music in the Okanagan, produced through the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art.

Williams is the high priest of extended techniques on the saxophone, often using circular breathing and multiphonics (playing two or more notes simultaneously) to devastating effect.

He has worked with many world-renowned musicians including Eugene Chadbourne, Chad van Gaalen, Han Bennink, and has performed at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, the Casse-Tête Festival of Experimental Music, and the Fake Jazz Festival.

Audiences can expect to be mesmerized by Williams’ incredible range of saxophone techniques as composition, improvisation, and physical endurance is explored within the performance.

For more than a decade, multi-instrumentalist V. Vecker is a celebrated fixture on the Vancouver experimental music scene, having played with Thundercat, Sun Araw, William Hooker, and psychedelic pop outfit Peaking Lights, as well as working with avant-garde composers Glenn Branca and Anthony Braxton.

Using a keyboard, a battle worn saxophone, and a string of pedals Vecker creates multilayered soundscapes of dense textures with harmonized loops and drones, underpinned by strident sax riffs.

Vecker is also a regular favourite at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, Music Waste, and the New Forms Festival.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the concert will begin at 8.

Admission is $12 for the public and $10 for students and Alternator members.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance at Milkcrate Records on Ellis Street or at the Alternator located inside the Rotary Centre for the Arts. Season Passes for the 2017 edition of Skin And Bones can also be purchased at the Alternator or .
