Platinum-selling Canadian folk singer/songwriter Sarah Harmer will be making a stop in Salmon Arm in the new year.
Presented by the Salmon Arm Folk Music Society鈥檚 (SAFMS), the March 18 concert at Song Sparrow Hall was announced Tuesday, Dec. 12, as part of Harmer鈥檚 Are You Gone Tour. Tickets go on sale Dec. 13.
Are You Gone, Harmer鈥檚 first album in a decade, is a deeply personal and political collection of songs inspired by the climate crisis, loss, presence and the beauty of life.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a sharpened, more electric confrontation with the realities of nature and human nature,鈥 said Harmer, who spends nearly as much time singing and songwriting in her home province of Ontario as she does advocating for the earth. One of her environmental achievements was leading efforts to prevent an open pit mine in a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve on the Niagara Escarpment.
At a time when many are turning to art and advocacy to rise up against the effects of climate change, including here in B.C., SAFMS artistic director Kevin Tobin said Harmer鈥檚 concert will be especially timely and appreciated.
鈥淗ere is this very accomplished, very affecting voice reflecting on themes that a lot of us are thinking about,鈥 said Tobin. 鈥淚 think Harmer鈥檚 music is really going to strike a chord with people.鈥
The all-ages, licensed Sarah Harmer performance takes place March 18, 2024, at Song Sparrow Hall. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $45 with member discounts available while supply lasts, and go on sale Dec. 13 at 10 am at rootsandblues.ca.
