The Tragically Hip鈥檚 songbook is getting the jukebox musical treatment under the guidance of 鈥淐ome From Away鈥 producer Michael Rubinoff.

Named after a Hip song, the show dubbed 鈥淚t鈥檚 a Good Life If You Don鈥檛 Weaken鈥 promises to draw on the band鈥檚 deep catalogue of Canadian classics, including lyrics by late frontman Gord Downie.

Rubinoff will be assisted by fellow producers David and Hannah Mirvish.

The book is written by Brian Hill, who worked on the Broadway musical 鈥淭he Story of My Life,鈥 and Ahmed Moneka, a nominee at this year鈥檚 Juno Awards for global music album.

Producers say the musical will premiere at Hamilton鈥檚 Theatre Aquarius next year with plans to further develop the project at Toronto Metropolitan University鈥檚 theatre school.

An open casting call is set for March 9 at the Creative School Chrysalis at Toronto Metropolitan University.

The song 鈥淚t鈥檚 a Good Life If You Don鈥檛 Weaken鈥 appeared on the Hip鈥檚 2002 album 鈥淚n Violet Light.鈥
