Vernon gallery gets REAL with latest art show

Headbones Gallery features Janine Hall's work with opening reception March 22

From portraits and landscapes to a re-occurring use of ribbons and Tarot cards, Janine Hall's paintings are up for admiration and interpretation at Headbones Gallery.

An opening reception for the Interior artist's work takes place at the Old Kamloops Road gallery Saturday, March 22, from 2 to 5 p.m.

"I firmly believe in the power of individual interpretation, said Hall. "While my paintings possess symbolic content, I do not intend for viewers to require knowledge of the underlying stories. Instead, I invite them to engage with the work on their own terms, allowing their own experiences, emotions, and imagination to shape their understanding.

"In this way, my paintings become a catalyst for personal reflection and introspection. They hold space for viewers to create their own narratives, find connections, or simply revel in the aesthetic beauty that I strive to convey."

For Hall, a major genre is portrait painting, where one individual, the artist, shapes a new conceptual realization of her subject.

"Janine also paints still life paintings where she incorporates historical paintings, contemporary photographs, objects that may assume a personal significance such as her repeated use of ribbons, and in the painted interpretation the physical world where we are used to operating becomes somewhat skewed," said Julie Oakes, Headbones' owner/artist.

The gallery is also showing a series of Hall’s paintings of Tarot Cards, images of the Major Arcana, visuals that come loaded with associations – deeper for the initiated, seductive for the curious, aesthetic for the art junkies.

Her work is on display until May 3.
