The teams of Four Left Feet (Kari Sergeant, Teresa Sanders, front left) and the Disco Balls (Rebecca Barton and Sophia Barton, front right) tied for the highest amount ever raised by a single team for the 2024 Dancing With the Vernon Stars event, a fundraiser for the North Okanagan Hospice Society. The event raised a record $271,000.

All they want to do is dance, and raise not romance, but cash (apologies to Eagles drummer Don Henley).

Lots of it.

The North Okanagan Hospice Society鈥檚 (NOHS) return of Dancing with the Vernon Stars this year was nothing short of spectacular. With the finalization of the event鈥檚 numbers, NOHS has released the record-breaking totals that reflect the incredible generosity and spirit of the community.

This year鈥檚 event was officially the most successful event in the society鈥檚 history, raising more funds than ever before through an unforgettable evening of glamour, generosity, and community spirit that raised more than $271,000.

"The contributions are vital to ensuring the society can continue to provide compassionate care, dignity, and support to individuals and families navigating end-of-life journeys," said NOHS executive director Megan Cox.

Nine dancing teams graced the floor and not only celebrated the artistry of dance but also the profound impact of community support.

Numerous records were shattered that night, including the highest amount ever raised by a single team, and then in an unprecedented twist, two teams tied for the top honour.

Rebecca and Sophia Barton of The Disco Balls, and Kari Sargeant and Teresa Sanders of Four Left Feet, fundraised until the very last moment, showcasing extraordinary dedication and determination that highlighted the power of collaboration and commitment that has made NOHS history.

鈥淭he enthusiasm and generosity we witnessed are a true testament to the heart of our community,鈥 said Cox. 鈥淓very dollar raised allows us to bring comfort, guidance, and peace to those who need it most.

"We are humbled and deeply grateful to everyone who made this night possible, from the dazzling performances to the unyielding support of sponsors, dancers, volunteers, and attendees.鈥

Dancing With The Vernon Stars will return in 2025, with planning already underway.

Anyone who is interested in sponsoring or dancing at next year's event should reach out to NOHS. Expressions of interest will open by December, and can be accessed through , or .
