Several cars left the track

Crews are on scene of a rail derailment in B.C.'s Interior Wednesday evening March 12.

CN manager of stakeholder relations, Tyler Banick, confirmed Thursday evening in an email that crews are responding to a derailment that occurred south of Barriere at approximately 5:40 pm local time.

Banick said preliminary reports indicate there are five derailed cars on the mainline.

CN crews and local first responders were attending to the scene and the cause is under investigation.

"CN would like to apologize for inconveniences caused by this incident. More information will be provided as it becomes available," Banick said.
