The Victoria Shamrocks celebrate their Western Lacrosse Association championship Friday night at the Q Centre.

An eight-goal, second-period outburst was all the Victoria Shamrocks needed to sweep aside the Langley Thunder on their way to the Mann Cup national senior A lacrosse championship.

The Shamrocks stopped the Thunder 13-7 Friday night at The Q Centre to sweep the best-of-seven Western Lacrosse Association championship series to cap an undefeated season.

Victoria's Casey Wilson and Clarke Peterson each netted a pair of goals to go along with two assists to capture first and second star, respectively, while teammate Jesse King notched two goals and four assists to garner third-star honours.

The Thunder crashed the party early with Bailey Vanichuk scoring just 47 seconds into the contest. Goals from King and Denton Macdonald lifted the Shamrocks to a brief 2-1 lead before a pair of markers gave Langley a 3-2 lead heading into the first intermission.

Langley moved ahead 4-2 just over three minutes into the second period before the Shamrocks came to life, pulling ahead 10-4 heading into the second intermission.

Chris Origlieri faced 40 shots in the Victoria net while the Shamrocks peppered 62 shots at the Thunder tandem of Kyle Mooney and Caleb Khan.

The Shamrocks will go on to face the winner of the series between the Six Nations Chiefs and Peterborough Lakers. The Chiefs take a 3-2 series lead into Peterborough Tuesday night to earn the right to host the Mann Cup starting Sept. 6.
