Starting at a very young age, Jodie Foster is best known as an Academy Award-winning actress who starred in movies like Taxi Driver, Freaky Friday, The Silence of the Lambs and Elysium. However, she is also an accomplished director with films like Little Man Tate and Home for the Holidays.
Her latest is called Money Monster and for this one she has enlisted acting heavyweights George Clooney and Julia Roberts.
Clooney plays Lee Gates, a bombastic TV personality whose popular financial network show has made him the money wiz of Wall Street. But after losing his family鈥檚 money on a bad tip from Gates, an investor (Jack O鈥機onnell) takes him, his crew and his producer Patty Fenn (Roberts) hostage live on air. The movie unfolds in real time with Gates and Fenn trying to find ways to keep themselves alive while simultaneously uncovering the tangled truth behind why the stock crashed.
Even with the star power of Clooney and Roberts in a thriller that is said to be quite entertaining, it might have trouble getting out of the shadow of Captain America: Civil War.
Another movie that deserves attention is Hello, My Name is Doris starring Sally Field. The Oscar-winning actress gets a long-overdue return to a starring role in a movie as Doris Miller, a 60-something woman who is eager to experience all she missed out on in life when she meets her company鈥檚 hip new art director (Max Greenfield from TV鈥檚 New Girl).
With the help of the 13-year-old granddaughter of her best pal Roz (Tyne Daly), Doris mines the Internet for information about her much younger crush. She throws caution to the wind and follows her heart for the very first time but it also creates a rift between her and her long-time friends and family, who believe she鈥檚 making a fool of herself over a guy half her age.
Horror fans will want to check out the Green Room as it not only features two Star Trek alumni in the same movie: Patrick Stewart (Captain Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation) and Anton Yelchin (Chekov from the Star Trek reboot), but is also being described as having uncommon intelligence and is powerfully acted. This means Green Room could become a cult hit.
A down on its luck punk band is about to call it quits when they get an unexpected booking at an isolated, run-down club deep in the backwoods of Oregon. When the band witness something backstage that they were not meant to see, their swan song turns into something much more sinister. Now trapped backstage, they must face off against the club鈥檚 depraved owner (Stewart), a man who will do anything to protect the secrets of his nefarious enterprise.
Critics are heaping praise upon writer/director Jeremy Saulnier, along with the entire cast including Stewart, whose villainous role is reportedly unforgettable.
