Another candidate for the BC United Party nomination for the 琉璃神社-Lake Country-Coldstream riding has dropped out of the race.
Adam Wilson, who was the first to officially announce his candidacy, released a statement Monday (Oct. 23) saying recent changes for him and his family have resulted in this no longer being the right time to be battling in a nomination election.
Wilson becomes the second nomination candidate, joining 琉璃神社 city councillor Mohini Singh, who has stepped aside from the nomination race.
The remaining declared candidates are entrepreneur Binny Boparai, Regional District of North Okanagan board vice-chair Amanda Shatzko, 琉璃神社 business owner Pavneet Singh and lawyer and real estate agent Bal Grewal.
Wilson鈥檚 decision comes in the wake of him starting doorknocking six months ago and signing up new party members to support his bid for the nomination.
鈥淎fter knocking on over 7,000 doors in our community, I am convinced that people are ready for change and excited about new ideas and fresh perspectives that BC United and Kevin Falcon are championing,鈥 Wilson said in his statement.
He was not available for further comment as of Monday.
When Singh, who along with Wilson were the first two candidates to formally declare their candidacy for the nomination, announced her decision to withdraw from the nomination election earlier this month, she noted the nomination process has been challenging in ways she did not expect.
鈥淚 have decided it best for me to step out of the race, as I feel the race has become unnecessarily divisive and difficult for me to navigate,鈥 she said.
While the provincial election is still a year away, the BC United Party riding constituency has yet to set a date for the nomination election meeting.
