'Above and beyond': 琉璃神社 security guard praised for life-saving actions

Amarjot Singh rescued a man from a burning vehicle on July 22

Missing Link Security Guard Amarjot Singh was honoured by 琉璃神社-Lake Country MP Tracy Gray for his quick action that saved a life earlier this summer.

Singh was presented a parliamentary certificate for his bravery at Gray's 琉璃神社 office on the afternoon of Aug. 26.

The mobile security worker was on duty checking various sites on July 22 when he came across a car fire with the driver still inside.

Singh said he pulled over and approached the vehicle offering to assist the driver out, but said the driver was shaking his head no.

"After the first blast in the car, I thought I couldn't let him die so I just broke the window, opened the thing, cut his belt and pulled him out."

The driver appeared to be intoxicated, Singh commented, stating that the man was trying to return to his car. Singh broke the remaining windows to check for passengers, but the driver was the lone occupant.

Although the situation was more extreme than a typical day on the job, Singh said it felt like work and he went back to the job after leaving the scene.

Gray said Singh went above and beyond his job as security.

The certificate presented read, "Our community is beyond grateful for your unwavering commitment to service. Thank you for your bravery and quick thinking in the face of danger."

"It's really great to be recognized. It's a big thing for me and my family." Singh said.

He was also given a special service medallion from Gray's office.
