UPDATE: Highway 97 in Peachland reopen after head-on crash, 2 taken to hospital

A truck and a semi collided head-on on Highway 97 in Peachland on Thursday, Aug. 22 around 6:45 a.m.

Highway 97 has reopened in both directions, according to DriveBC.

Highway 97 in Peachland is closed in both directions for a semi and a truck collided head-on.

The crash happened on the highway, north of Princeton Avenue around 6:45 a.m.

According to a Black Press Media reporter at the scene, the jaws of life was needed to be used to get the truck driver out of the vehicle. They were able to stand on their own. However, the truck driver and one other are being transported to hospital.

Multiple ambulances at the scene, as well as fire crews and RCMP.

Delays are expected in the area as it's unknown at this time when the highway will reopen. Drivers heading northbound can detour on Beach Avenue, while traffic control is on scene, sending southbound drivers onto 13th Avenue. There is no detour available for commercial or heavy vehicles. DriveBC will update the scene at 9:30 a.m.
