The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26 new location at 908 Wilson Avenue.

City council was unanimous in its support of a liquor licence for the Royal Canadian Legion鈥檚 new home.

The Legion鈥檚 (Branch 26) former home at 1380 Bertram Street was at the corner of St. Paul St. and Doyle Avenue. Now, the Legion is working on relocating to 908 Wilson Ave., and part of that move includes transferring its liquor license to the new spot. The Legion applied to increase its capacity from 156 to 213 people at Monday鈥檚 (Mar. 3) council meeting.

鈥淚鈥檓 pleased to see the Legion getting a home after what they鈥檝e been going through,鈥 Councillor Rick Webber said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 very positive.鈥

In response to potential neighbourhood concerns, the Legion has put together a noise mitigation plan.

It is making sure its new building has sound-reducing windows and will limit the use of outdoor spaces late at night, and control the noise levels of events. The Legion has also encouraged residents to reach out with any questions or concerns, either directly to them or the city.

鈥淚t鈥檚 been a long time coming,鈥 added Coun. Maxine DeHart. 鈥淲e鈥檝e all been heart-felt for the Legion, we鈥檙e so happy. I鈥檓 looking forward to the ribbon-cutting.鈥

While council has given its approval, the licence application now goes to the provincial Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch for final approval.
