Okanagan Boys and Girls Club has been identified as the proposed operator for a new childcare centre in Peachland.

The facility will be built on district-owned property near Peachland Elementary School and provide 104 spaces for children of all ages and needs.

Works also include a playground, parking lot and landscaping, along with related off-site services and roadway/sidewalk improvements.

At its Oct. 22 meeting, council agreed to amend the 2024 budget to include $12.2 million from Childcare BC New Spaces funding to design and construct the facility.

Municipal Affairs Minister Anne Kang made the funding announcement in Peachland on Aug. 9 while on vacation.

Tenders for the project should go out by the end of the year and construction is expected to start in early 2025.
