Lake Country RCMP is looking for the driver of truck that damaged trails in the community鈥檚 new bike park.
Police were called to the Lake Country Bike Park (8865 Okanagan Centre Road West) around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday (Mar. 26) and met district employees who were already starting repairing the trails and bank.
A 2014 Dodge truck had gained access to the trails and was driving on them when the bank slipped. The truck slid down the bank toward the water treatment plant where it came to a stop on the hill.
RCMP said the driver left the scene and the truck was uninsured. Police are investigating potential criminal charges. If the driver cannot be identified the registered owner will be issued violation tickets as all vehicle owners have a responsibility for how their vehicle is being operated, according to an RCMP media release.
鈥淭his is an exceptionally disappointing incident,鈥 said Cpl. Ryder Birtwistle. 鈥淭he driver of this truck made the conscious decision to try and destroy a brand new bike park which would have been a massive loss to the community.鈥
Police ask anyone who witnessed the incident, or has information to provide, to call Lake Country RCMP at 250-766-2288.
