The Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) is looking for public feedback about a food waste collection program.

It would apply to residents who currently receive curbside waste collection in the Central Okanagan.

The RDCO board first discussed the idea in Jan. this year.

A survey would assess community support for the program, and depending on the feedback, the RDCO would decide on potential future steps.

鈥淥ver 40 per cent of waste going into residential curbside garbage is compostable and most of that is food waste,鈥� says Travis Kendel, RDCO acting director of engineering services. 鈥淭his initial survey aims to gain a wide range of perspectives from people of all ages and interests on food waste collection.鈥�

Residents who receive a survey in the mail are encouraged to complete and return it via postage-paid envelope, or complete the survey through a , no later than Nov. 13.

Results will be presented to the RDCO board this winter.

鈥淏y considering a curbside food waste collection program, we aim to expand upon our already existing organics (yard waste) collection program, providing an additional choice for residents to manage their food waste beyond backyard composting.鈥�
