An Okanagan BC Conservative candidate has concerns about future electricity and natural gas needs on the west side of the lake.

Macklin McCall expressed his concerns in a letter addressed to the media.

鈥淚 am compelled to address two crucial matters: the natural gas pipeline issue and the vulnerability stemming from the reliance on a single hydro line servicing West 琉璃神社,鈥� he writes.

McCall was chosen by the party to represent West 琉璃神社-Peachland in the next provincial election, scheduled for on or before Oct. 19, 2024.

He says a decision by the BC Utilities Commission (BCUC) to deny the expansion of the natural gas pipeline on the east side of Okanagan Lake, between Chute Lake and Penticton, needs to be reconsidered.

鈥淭he economic and environmental benefits of responsible natural gas development cannot be overstated, especially when tailored to the specific requirements of our region.鈥�

Equally pressing, McCall notes, is the vulnerability posed by a single hydro line servicing West 琉璃神社.

鈥淭his is a matter of public safety, and a more resilient energy infrastructure is urgently needed to prevent disruptions and ensure the safety and well-being of our residents.鈥�

McCall says a BC Conservative government pledge to expand natural gas initiatives and generate more electricity.
