A young dog found with a broken leg was rescued and is on the mend thanks to a kind stranger, vet and rescue group.
Charlie came to the Okanagan Humane Society (OHS) last Thursday via a brave rescuer in Vernon.
鈥淪he noticed that Charlie was in pain, holding up his paw, and crying, and he needed medical attention immediately,鈥 OHS said.
After trying with no luck to take him to the SPCA shelter in Vernon (which is now closed permanently), she desperately called around for help, and thankfully was able to reach OHS.
鈥淲ithin half an hour of her call to OHS, Charlie was in the care of one of our veterinary partners getting his broken leg all fixed up.鈥
Charlie is estimated to be only five months old and is sweet, friendly, and otherwise in good health.
鈥淲e don鈥檛 know what Charlie鈥檚 outcome may have been had he not been rescued and brought to OHS, but needless to say, we are so glad that he was!鈥
He is now in the care of a foster, and will spend the next several weeks healing until he is ready to find his forever home.
The veterinary costs associated with Charlie鈥檚 injury so far have totalled $3,100, plus additional vet visits and vet costs as he recovers.
OHS is a volunteer run, foster based animal rescue.
鈥淭his low cost model ensures more of your donor dollars go directly to saving local animals in need,鈥 OHS said.
Right now, during its Angels for Animals campaign, all donations are matched up to $25,000 - meaning dollars can go twice as far, and donors can save twice the lives.
鈥淲e can鈥檛 do this important work without you.鈥
