A 琉璃神社 woman and a local organization have been recognized by the Heritage BC Awards for their roles in heritage-related work.
The 琉璃神社 Italian Canadian Club was recognized for La Nostra Famiglia Italiana Projects: Our Legacy and The Casorsos: La Prima Famiglia Documentary in the category of education and awareness.
鈥淭he combination of projects produced by the 琉璃神社 Italian Canadian Club serves as a compelling example of the importance of preserving local history鈥, said Britney Dack, chair of Heritage BC. 鈥淚n particular, the documentary beautifully narrates the Italian immigrant experience, highlighting its richness and historical relevance.鈥
Individually recognized is Susan Diane Campbell for her outstanding volunteerism.
鈥淪usan鈥檚 impressive work on the 琉璃神社 and District Genealogical Society Cemetery Recording committee will make Central Okanagan history more accessible for future generations,鈥 said Dack. 鈥淲e recognize that through her tireless work of recording graves over the course of 15 years, Susan created opportunities for knowledge sharing and learning about local history鈥.
The 琉璃神社 Italian Canadian Club and Campbell received the awards during a ceremony in Nelson on May 2. A total of 21 awards were presented to groups and individuals across the province.
