Gellatly Nut Farm Regional Park

A century-old nut orchard on the shores of Okanagan Lake will be hosting it's annual harvest celebration on Oct. 5.

Gellatly Nut Farm Regional Park is B.C.'s oldest working nut farm, and has been in operation for 100 years. The orchard is located on the west side of Okanagan Lake and also features walking paths and a beach.

The park is based around the heritage nut farm which produces several varieties of nuts including chestnuts, hazelnuts, walnuts, butternuts, heartnuts and buartnuts.

The annual nut sale begins once the nuts begin to fall from the trees – typically from early September until late October.

The hazelnuts ripen first, often in early September, followed by walnuts and chestnuts later in the month.

Each fall people are invited to come out to the farm and collect nuts as they ripen for $5 per pound. Pre-collected nuts are also available for purchase, for those who do not wish to U-Pick or collect. All proceeds from nut sales go to the Gellatly Nut Farm Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the hundred year old orchard and trees.

In the midst of nut season, on Oct. 5, the Nut Farm Society is hosting a Harvest Celebration. In addition to nut collecting, people can participate in guided walks, watercolour painting, and enjoy live music from the Nice and Easy Duo and Mickey Reeves. Bird carving artist James Hooey will also be in attendance.

More information about the Harvest Celebration is available on
