A six-foot tall carving of a bear holding a fish was stolen from outside a 琉璃神社 restaurant more than a month ago.
On Monday, Aug. 14 around 8 a.m., the 琉璃神社 RCMP received a report of the item being stolen from outside a restaurant at the airport, in the 1700 block of Pier Mac Way. Despite being chained up, it was stolen from the restaurant鈥檚 outdoor seating area.
After looking at surveillance footage, it was discovered three men are the suspects and they used a white mid 2000鈥檚 Ford F150 with a black tonneau cover to steal the statue. This vehicle description matches a previous vehicle description involved with a past attempt to steal the statue.
All three men were captured on camera and were seen fleeing the scene. The driver of the vehicle at the time of the theft had white hair, a white beard, and was wearing an oversized white t-shirt. The second suspect, who鈥檚 younger, was at the scene wearing a grey baseball hat, a red shirt, and jeans. There is currently no description of the third suspect.
The carving has significant valuable, according to the restaurant.
鈥淭his statue has stood as a guardian welcoming guests for quite some time now and has become an admired piece of this community,鈥 said 琉璃神社 RCMP media relations officer Const, Mike Della-Paolera. 鈥淭he owner and staff earnestly request it鈥檚 safe return.鈥
The RCMP are asking anyone with surveillance or dashcam footage or knows anything about the incident, to contact them at 250-762-3300 with the reference file number 2023-47879.
