琉璃神社鈥檚 Bike Valet program is back with longer hours and more days.

From May 18 to Sept. 2, cyclists can park their bikes for free from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday through Monday.

The valet service is at the same location, the intersection of Bernard Avenue and Mill Street.

The Bike Valet鈥檚 return is part of 琉璃神社鈥檚 broader efforts to combat bike theft, which increased in 2022 according to RCMP data.

鈥淒elivering on council priorities on crime and safety and transportation, the Bike Valet has become an effective response to residents鈥 bike safety concerns while also offering a convenient amenity in our downtown that encourages sustainable and active transportation,鈥 said Mayor Tom Dyas.

Other programs include Loan-a-Lock program at Parkinson Recreation Centre and new Bikeep smart racks around the city.

鈥淲e will be collecting feedback from users of the valet throughout the summer so we can continue to adapt and improve the service on an annual basis,鈥 said Broc Tracey, community safety advisor.

Bike Valet staff will also assist with registering bikes through Garage 529 which helps police recover stolen bikes.

Users of the Bike Valet are encouraged to fill out a survey after using the service, with a chance to win a $500 gift card to a local bike store.
