Replacement boilers for the Parkinson Recreation Centre (PRC) will cost the city approximately $600,000.

Just days after more than 4,000 琉璃神社 residents voted against borrowing $241.3 million to replace the PRC, a boiler failure forced the closure of the pool and aquatic area for approximately eight weeks starting Oct. 23.

The money will replace mechanical and associated pool equipment, with the funds coming from the building

repair reserve.

鈥淎 condition assessment of Parkinson Recreation Centre was completed in March which identified many of the mechanical systems have exceeded their service lives,鈥� stated a a staff report.

Several of the boilers that heat the building and small pool are no longer able to operate safely.

The remaining boilers are also past the end of life and a full boiler replacement is being planned.

New boilers will be able to be repurposed when the PRC is permanently closed.

The pool is expected to be reopened in Jan. 2024.
