Manganese levels in West 琉璃神社 water reservoir low, expected to rise

The City of West 琉璃神社 has provided an update on the Rose Valley Water Service Area

A city media release says manganese levels in the reservoir and in the distribution system have remained low and did not increase in March. However, staff anticipate that levels will increase this summer as water temperatures warm. The city is also working on options to remove manganese from the source water. 

鈥淗ealth Canada states that manganese occurs naturally in the environment, is widely distributed in air, water and soil and is an essential element for humans,鈥 the release stated. 鈥淗owever, dissolved manganese also discolours drinking water, typically turning it a brownish colour.鈥

The city advises not to consume discoloured water or use it in infant formula, and instead, run the cold tap until the water clears.

If too much dissolved manganese is present and levels exceed the maximum acceptable concentration an advisory will be sent out to customers.
