The annual Midsummer 8km race is ready to rip through the streets of 琉璃神社 on July 14.
This race has been a staple of the 琉璃神社 running calendar since 1988. With its flat course and elite competition, the Midsummer 8k always promises fast and fun times at Gyro Beach.
This year, the race received designation as a BC Athletics Championship event.
鈥淏eing a BC Championship race should draw in a big crowd of runners from across the province,鈥 said Josh Wyatt, one of the Midsummer race directors.
The gun to start the Midsummer 8km will go off at 8 a.m., and a kids fun run will be held after the main event.
Despite the blistering paces that are sure to be unleashed on 琉璃神社's lakefront, the event is inclusive of all runners and walkers.
"The race is open to all levels of runners and we offer a fantastic experience regardless of whether you cross the line in 30 minutes, or an hour and 30 minutes," said co-race director Janice Bradshaw.
The event also serves as a fundraiser for the UBC Okanagan Track and Field and Cross Country team, which is coached by Olympian Malindi Elmore.
