After a nine month investigation, an RCMP officer who shot a man in West ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç has been cleared of wrongdoing by the Independent Investigations Office (IIO), which serves as a police watchdog agency.

The incident is still before the courts and as a result, the names of those involved and additional details cannot be released at this time.

The shooting took place October 18, on Skyline Road in West ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç.

Police responded to calls about a man with a firearm at approximately 12:10 p.m., near Harvey Avenue, and Olalla and Skyline Roads.

The man, who was believed to be the subject of the calls to police, found hiding from police inside a porta-potty on Skyline Rd.

"During the interaction that followed, an officer discharged their firearm, and the man sustained a gunshot-related injury," said the IIO report.

The man was then transported to the hospital for treatment.

An investigation by the IIO was initiated immediately after the incident. The civilian oversight agency investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.

The IIO reviewed the evidence – including video footage, forensic scene analysis, witness statements and police reports – and subsequently determined "that there are no reasonable grounds to believe any officer may have committed an offence."

The investigation has now concluded, and the public report regarding this matter will be published once the related court process is concluded.
