The announcement of a tiny-home project planned for 759 Crowley Ave.raised eyebrows for many people in November.
The city-owned property is being turned into a development for people experiencing homelessness.
The village of 60 tiny homes is sandwiched between industrial businesses, and the rail trail encampment, also known as Tent City on Weddell Place.
Some people living in Tent City said the initiative, and accompanying social supports, are a much-needed option.
However, others wondered why they were not included in the planning discussions.
Several employees at local businesses said they were concerned with people鈥檚 safety, pointing out the area does not have sidewalks and is not well-lit.
Commercial truck traffic coming and going next to the development is also disruptive an dangerous, they said.
鈥淭he city would never allow a condo or townhouse complex to be built here because of lack of sidewalks, green space, etc.,鈥 one employee said.
A second site of 60 tiny homes, also owned by the city, was announced on Nov. 30 at 2740 Highway 97, north of Enterprise Way.
Businesses in that area have also expressed concern about the location.
